A careful read is warranted. They can be tricky.
Also be sure you are referencing the Code cycle being enforced in your area as each cycle adds some significant requirements.
A check with the AHJ concerning local requirements might be in order. Recent electrical fatalities have encouraged the requirement for feeder GFP protection and other safety measures.
(For example TN just passed a bill requiring GFP or like protection)

Yes, WV passed a law about marinas which was to come into effect in June, now postponed to Dec. I'm working with guys who are preparing a 2-day course for electricians (and inspectors) connected with marinas. 100mA or less Feeder GFP are part of the new law. We're planning 514, 555, refresher on parts of 250, listing and labeling. Any more?

The code cycle is a good comment, If 2014 is scheduled to be adopted in 2015, we'll probably use it. 2011 is the current enforcement edition.

Gus, can you elaborate on this? Link to the bill etc?
Is it just for marinas, or marinas with fuel?

I have read the State Bill and was told that it passed but i don't yet have a copy.
After recent marina deaths, the State is hiring an electrical inspector to inspect every marina on a continual r4otating schedule. The new bill will also require any new install to have GFP (100ma, I think) protection on the service or feeders OR every receptacle must be GF (5 ma) protected.

HB3020 Boat Dock & Marina Safety Requirements -- the Michael Cunningham Act. (Michael was a child who was electrocuted)

Applies to boat docks with any electrical power on them other than privately owned and used only for owner or their guests.
Applies to marinas which provide electricity to boats.

Requires signs readable at 80 feet away that state "ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD RISK: NO SWIMMING WITHIN 100 YARDS OF THE BOAT DOCK"

Requires all wiring for 110/200VAC to be done by licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician [no apprentices or unlicensed?]
Follow most recently adopted NFPA 303 and 70
Install GFCIs on dock and marina electrical circuits
Require inspection before 1 Aug 2014 [postponed to Dec?] of Power Sources, including Ship-to-Shore pedestals, submergible pumps, sewage pumps. Inspections to reoccur at no less that 3 year intervals.

These requirements appear to be retrospective, in that to be legal, existing wiring must brought up to meet the new requirements.

State Fire Marshal may promulgate (Emergency) rules including but not limited to:
NFPA 303 Standards for Marinas and Boatyards
NFPA 70 Art. 555
American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) E-2, E-10, & E-11

Penalties:

1: No injury: 1st offense citation; 2nd and following $100 fine, each day of violation separate offense.
2: Injury: 1st offense: ?$500 fine; 2nd and following ?$1000 fine and/or ?6 months;
3: Death: ?$1000 and/or ?12 months

"fmtjfw asked:
what do you need to know? marinas
What should be in a class for electricians doing installations at marinas (with fueling stations)?
What sections of the code?"
Besides the basic NEC articles, (1) it is my recommendation for any electrician & EC
to submit plans for review & approval from the appropriate AHJ, ...whether that is local,
state or federal, or a combination thereof, and to actually obtain a permit, and
(2) to know
that there are
other codes & standards involved; besides the NEC, that govern the overall
project. :happyyes:
