Help! My question is: who/what code(electrical) govern the installation of water craft, aircraft, mobile house, passenger train.

I am wondering that this is scope by the country's electrical code wherever they are built.

Somebody say it is not cover by NEC and why not?they have also electrical installation much harder than land (residential/building etc.)

Any contribution will be highly appreciated, please tell the provision as much as possible.

thank you

Section 90.2 lists what is covered and not covered in the NEC. Its a pretty long section and I don't want to quote it here.
the NEC does not apply to watercraft, mines and trains.
It does apply to mobile homes

Mobile homes can easily work there way around codes by mfg them in towns that have weak and old NEC in place. They can avoid things like AFCI .The town could be using 93 NEC and they won't push hard as they don't want to risk loosing a major industry and employer. Then they pull them into counties that are on NEC 02 and other than the hookup to service are exempt from local codes. Not a good thing but part of life.

Only the mobile home service and feeder is covered by the NEC for enforcement. The home is HUD approved and cannot be enforced by the AHJ.

Hud only applys when the home is in the manufacturing plant. when the home is located on a lot and or foundation and the home owner want to do some remodeling to it trust me the NEC does have a artical that applies.

Just look at 550.1:

ARTICLE 550 Mobile Homes, Manufactured Homes, and Mobile Home Parks
I. General
550.1 Scope.
The provisions of this article cover the electrical conductors and equipment installed within or on mobile and manufactured homes , the conductors that connect mobile and manufactured homes to a supply of electricity, and the installation of electrical wiring, luminaires (fixtures), equipment, and appurtenances related to electrical installations within a mobile home park up to the mobile home service-entrance conductors or, if none, the mobile home service equipment.

Now it might fall under the authorty of HUD to inforce these codes in your area, but it is right there in the NEC

Re: What electrical code govern this?

Hurk, I was just saying that the mobile home itself when its time for inspection only the feeder and service equipment can be inspected not any of the wiring itself in the home because it is certified by HUD. I did not mean to inply that any added wiring by the homeowner would not be covered by the NEC or that any ad-ons or repairs would not fall under article 550 of the NEC.

No problem I just know that there are alot of DYS that read in here and even though this forum is for pro's It don't hurt to make sure some things are clear. as someone unknowingly could get the wrong idea's.

As far as watercraft goes, we may not know the answer as this is a NEC forum. However my guess would be the coast guard has regulations, you could call the office in a port, they have staff that inspect watercraft.

That link didn't work for me. I got a "connection refused" error. I have forgotten the exact name now but there is a complete wiring code comparable to the NEC for marine vessels.
