I've been following some of the threads in the different columns here and a qu question comes to mind :

What in the world is a "Trunk Slammer"

I have been in the trade for almost fourteen years- worked on everything from 4-20mA instruments to 13.8KV switch gear...Heard of Rats, Scabs, Sparkies, Chart Fairies, Meter Maids, Truckers With Tools, Shade Tree Electricians and several more that are rather derogatory, but I ain't never heard of Trunk Slammers.

Could you please explain the term to this Shade Tree Electrician. :D

Re: What in the world ???

Where I live, a trunk-slammer is an "electrician" that can't afford a pick-up truck.

My apologies if I have hurt any feelings.

Re: What in the world ???

I take it to mean a person that conducts business from the back of their vehicle and has no physical location or contact. Once the deal is made, they slam the trunk shut, run with your money, and you never see or hear from them again.

Its like those guys that pull up to your vehicle while your filling gas and try to sell you speakers for a "incredibly" low price. They always seem to only have two left?

Re: What in the world ???

A Chart Fairy is a rather mean term us maintenance electricians have given to our fellow "brothers". (The instrument mechanics) This came about when the electricians were rigging and pulling 750 mcms out of Hydros and our counterparts were changing chart paper on small desktop recorders, complaining that it was especially warm in the plant that day. You can see why we also refer to these guys as our union "sisters". ;)

Hope I haven't offended anyone... They cant help it if they got a cush gig.

Bryan, That's exactly right but don't forget about the "tail light warranty" that customarily goes along with their work. When you see their tail lights - the warranty is over !!!

Re: What in the world ???

My cement contractor gives me a crack guarantee with every slab he pours for me:

He concludes every job with this guarantee: "It's guaranteed to crack".
