What is a fair price on a Zinsco (refurbished) 100 amp breaker?

Hi,

I had to have emergency electrical work done a few nights ago when our 100 amp main started tripping several times. Found an outfit in the phone book who came out close to midnight. While the charges appeared rather high to me for dispatch and troubleshooting, the price that really has me concerned is the charge for the breaker. Specifically, I'm fairly certain it is this exact same item: https://www.amazon.com/Zinsco-QCAL2100-Original-Circuit-Breaker/dB003VAQ25S I was charged $1125 (obviously includes the installation charge). The electrician was only at our place a bit over an hour to diagnose and replace the breaker. I have been in touch with the company, who is willing to negotiate the cost, but they'd like what I deem a fair price for this item. As can be seen on the amazon link, these appear to sometimes sell for around $150, although I've seen a bit higher and lower. Not sure if refurbished (which the one was that the guy installed) is generally cheaper or more expensive. To be fair to the company, I want to present what seems as reasonably accurate a price as I can find. Any thoughts? If a good price is $150, I should figure in labor yet. So, possibly $250-300 total for that portion of the job? I realize any emergency service is going to be double rate or more.

Thanks for any input... [h=1][/h]

You really want to come on an electrical forum, where electricians hang out and complain about customers who complain about prices, and then get their opinion.

I suspect the electrical company got a refurbished one and since Zinsco is not made anymore so the price is high. They came out at midnight and you want to determine what their labor should be. I am sorry but perhaps they did charge alot but that is what you pay for in an emergency.

The emergency room in the hospital costs a whole lot more than just going to a doctor. Pay it and be thankful they were there for you.
