A few "customers" have asked me about grow lights.

What is the best LED "grow lights"

Any of you Colorado boy have any suggestions???

I might also need a good Astronomical timeclock, the type that accounts for your zipcode and date ,and the adjusts automatically for sunrise and suneset.

I use these switches to pull in the lighting contactors for the street lights at my plant. They are pretty darn slick and very simple to program.

Why do plants growing inside care what the sun is doing?

depending on the sunlight hours-per-day, plants will sprout, mature, or flower.

Horse breeders will also quarantine a mare in a stall and adjust the lighting times in order for her to "come in season'.. at a certain time of year.

For horse racing the age of a horse is determined by JAN 1st (or whenever), instead of whenever it was born that year.

If you can get a foal at the beginning of the year instead of the end of the year, then it will be more mature at raceday.

Word of advice for getting into that industry;
Get your cash up front!...
Being legal in a state is one thing, but banks are still required to follow federal regs, so they cannot issue bank accounts to the growers and dispensaries. That then leads to them getting ripped off a lot more, so a couple of contractors I know have not been able to collect because the grow operations were robbed and are now broke.

Of course, I get that, but why would a grower be concerned with synchronizing his lights with what the sun is doing outside?

Also wondered about that. Something tells me they may actually increase or decrease light hours at different rate then mother nature would to promote certain stages of growth. Plus you never have cloudy days in such a facility

this stuff starts getting complex.

now, growers are altering color temperature to affect growing.
the entire indoor growing thing is complex, in an attempt
to be as energy efficient as possible.

the MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW about
doing work in this budding industry is this:

CASH UP FRONT.

it was mentioned elsewhere. it's important. i've done lighting
certs on two dispensaries, and one grow facility. it's a pretty
sketchy business, due to the legal conflicts between state and
federal policies.

A quick Google search results in all the answers you need. In summary, no you cannot use standard LED, but you can get LED with the proper wavelength.
