What is the code specifying the need to be licensed?

Hi,
I know I've read the code but I can't find it, and I am dealing a lot with unlicensed "contractors" lately who are trying to claim they don't need a license to install surveillance cameras because the DBPR page doesn't have it specifically listed as something a license is needed for...
I've tried explaining that that thing is more of a guideline, and NOT the law!

Does anyone know it off the top of your head?

Thanks,
Richard

This will not be a code requirement. It is a matter of state law. In my state, it would appear both in the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

if the state does not require such people to be licensed they are not required to be licensed. it is not a code issue.

It says you live in Florida and that looks like a serious offense there check here:

One way to find out would be to report them.

Installation of surveillance cameras aren't specifically mentioned, the OP states that.

What kind of cameras, I wonder? There are cameras that are wireless and no actual wiring is done, just the mounting of the camera, which has either batteries or a wall wart or both.

There are also cameras that are wired, but come with their own cables, so again, no 'wiring' is really done.

I think the installation of the above would not require a license.

Now, if the cameras are (for instance) connected cable that needs to be terminated to be installed, or need to have any wiring not included as a kit installed, I would think a license would be needed.

Where I am any kind of security work requires an 'S-license'

Q: Who must hold an S-license?

A: Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 147, §57, any person, firm or corporation who engages in, advertises, or holds himself or itself out as being engaged in the business of installing, repairing, or offering maintenance for security systems, must be licensed by the Department.

Q: Do I need any other licenses to be eligible to receive an S-license?

A: Yes. You must have a valid electricians' license, of any class. M.G.L. c. 147, §58.

It has more to do with background checks than the act of installing a camera or a cable.
