What is the Maximum number of sockets on a branch circuit of 220 V /20 Amp

Does NEC puts any restriction on the maximum number of sockets or am I right in calculating as follows = 220V X 20/180 VA?

240V 20A receptacles are usually for dedicated equipment here (US), like PTAC (air conditioning and heat) units, and there would typically be just one per circuit. On 120V circuits, there is no NEC limitation of # of receptacles per circuit - not sure on 220/240V tho in an overseas installation.

Does that mean the 220V receptacles are convenience outlets (like our 120V receptacles)? If so, see the above post by JFletcher.
