What is the minimum distance between a motor and anything else?

The motor can be of any HP (horse power) that you choose.
Basically the question is, if I have a motor (commercial or industrial), what is the clearance distance (assuming there is a distance) around the motor that is required?

This could be a technical standard, a law, or whatever.
Anywhere in the world but Canada in particular.
Please provide references.

As far as the NEC is concerned, there would normally not be a minimum clearance other than one required by the manufacturer.
Working clearances are covered in 110.26 but they apply to equipment "subject to be worked on while energized" and most folks do not place motors in that category.

In the OEM that is specific for the motor you would find the required clearences. Clearences would be required for: working space required for the instalaltion and removal of the motor itself, accessibility of lubrication points and requirements for free flow of ambient air for heat removal.

I remember more than once hanging upside down over all of the pool piping trying to wire up a motor where the access panel was a foot or less from the wall.

I agree that there is no violation.
