Hi folks...
I just want some clarification regarding the right connection of 220/110 volt in the USA.

For 220/110V 3 phase 4 wire, I believe this is wye connected with neutral.Does the neutral also to be called ground or earth? If yes, the neutral conductor shall be bonded to the ground electrode of the premises(building/house/etc.).

For 220/110V 3 wire, I believe this is single phase transformer connected as if to be view as open delta because of its neutral.Does this neutral in float or does it also connected to the earth or grounded. If yes, floated, it must not be connected to grounding electrode of the premeses.

Thank you and I hope to be enlighten to this as well as other may be.

Re: what is the right connection?

The voltages we use here in the US are 120, 120/240, 208Y/120, 240, 480Y/277, 480, and 600

I imagine you mean 120/240 single phase and the neutral is connected to earth.

208Y/120 3 phase the neutral is also connected to earth.

Re: what is the right connection?

iwire,

Thanks for the reply now I understand.Ya I mean 120/240 single phase 3 wire (as service drop) this mean that neutral is connected to earth and evrytime I wire I must connect the neutral conductor of my service enctrance/drop to ground electrode same as with 208Y/120 this is 4 wire service drop as well as 480Y/277 with 4 wire service drop as well therefore you never used a neutral which is floating like 120/240 single pahse where the neutral conductor is not a grounded but merely i would say as center tap(as for small transformer).

Now I understand that you are using the nominal voltage of 240V,120V,208,480and 600.

The reason I ask this was when I read some message somewhere here in this forum about the master electrician who doesn't know the right connection.

Thanks a lot folks.Good luck.

Re: what is the right connection?

if in your post you were talking about 110/220 3 phase, as already stated above,we still have a few "high leg delta" 3 Phase services here, which would be 240/120v, you have to remember that the one leg is around 208 to neutral. I am not sure what they have in canada off hand, if that is the country you are talking about.
