It's an OLD style QOT breaker, the newer ones have side by side handles like the bottom breaker.

Yeah, that old "piggybck" design was a PITA because the screws to connect the load wires were over/under instead of side-x-side. So if you had to remove the lower wire, you had to remove the upper wire first to get access to the screw. I'd bet they changed the design because a lot of DIYers got zapped trying to work on their own stuff.

Well, you learn something new everyday. I've run across those breakers here and there, never had a need to replace them or really research them other than a curiosity. So that style breaker is, what, 35 plus years old then?

Still in use in the early 80s. So you’re pretty close!

Those are no CTL, so if you need to replace one, you need the non CTL version which is like $55.

So, there’s a little groove in the hook of the CTL QO2020T. Put your Klein’s on that groove and squeeze. You now have a non-CTL breaker (QOT2020).

They came in both the CTL and non-CTL version (the T in the part number means CTL, QOT2020 vs QO2020). CTL came out in the 60's, this style of tandem QO was still sold into the 80's. When they changed the design, they kept the same part numbers. The piggy-back design prevented a visi-trip indicator from being used. I can't remember if the piggy-back design had a common trip on the 2-pole versions, and my old catalogs are at home.

I've seen that old-style tandem QO with push-in wiring terminals.

Was not aware there was a two pole version. Predecessor to today's "quad" breakers? Kind of thing mostly found in mobile/manufactured homes - never seen a QO panel in mobile home (as original equipment) though.

You going to wrong supplier. I can't remember last time I bought one but pretty sure was only $25 max. CTL versions were only about half that.

I just looked online at my Square D distributor. $52 for a QO2020. My salesman would probably sell to me slightly less but its more than 3 time the price of what I can get QOT's for.
Square D doesn't need to offer competitive pricing for breakers like this since they are not going to loose the sale to a competitor.

I said I couldn't remember last time I bought one - appears to have been 2004 (can't believe it has been that long)- was about $30 then.
