What kind of volt/ohm/amp meter used?

Who in here still uses the Simpson 260 analog meters? I cut my teeth on that one plus the Triplett brand. Now I still have a Simpson 260 along with a clamp on Fluke digital.

For most use, I prefer a solenoid-type voltage tester, as it has a low-enough impedance to minimize "phantom" (induced) voltages. I also have a clamp-on ammeter/VOM when I really need to know the voltage.

I haven't used 260 since trade school.

Larry, is that what they refer to as a Square D "Wiggy" ?

That's what I would call it. You know the type that you can't see in low light so you have to listen for the click.;)

When using digital meter" flukes to check continuity on a dead conductor in raceway with live conductors it will not work, in that case I use my 260 or other anolog meter. fluke I think is the best, dropped on the floor few times, had one 260 on top fridge, and pushed it in place and 260 fell on the floor and was a total loss.

There is always a Knopp solonoid tester in my belt, but sometimes I switch over to my fluke model number something or other that has a slot for amp testing conductors also. Since I bought it I hardly ever resort to my clamp amprobe any more. Only when I check large conductors.

You mean like this?

260-2%20(600%20x%20400).jpg

Had this thing probably 40 years but I wouldn't take anything for it. Use it when I suspect the Fluke is giving me "ghost readings"
