First off I am a HI, so you guys can have fun busting my "you know what's".

I have a question on when (NEC code cycle) did the 6 foot rule for receptacle placement in dwelling units first be defined and required. I only have the codes back to 2002.

I only have as far back as 1999. That area of the code has some revisions from the 1996 edition, but the 6 foot rule was not changed from 1996.

I built my own home in 1972 and the electrical folks that wired it seemed to follow that rule but I wouldn't bet on it as an absolute but think it was.

1978 NEC - 210-25(b) has same requirements for 6 foot ruling. No indication that there was a change from previous edition. That is as far back as my books go.

Welcome. I only would bust your chops if you stepped out of the generalist mode and stepped into the expert (citing code) mode.

People spend years and pass tests in order to be able to make those calls.
