What do you do when a two story room addition is going to be added on the side of the house where the service is ? (and people are living in the house) Thank you.

Relocate the service and make the existing panel into a sub-panel.

If you plan it right, the power should be off and back on in one day.

Set a Temp. Pole and sub feed to existing until permanent service can be installed.

If you don't want a temp pole then they'll have to built the addition around the existing service. Once the new area is framed move the service.
