I'm talking about the old NM that has the greyish/silver color, woven outer covering. Two conductor, black/white with brown paper filler. I don't know for a fact that it's asbestos, but it sure looks like it to me.

There was lot of wire with Asbestos insulation, pretty much all old (50 and 60s heating appliances where wired with it.

With a little intenet searching I found there are also Asbestos cables but I could not find a picture or description.

Who Cares what the insulation is, what about the load?

Who Cares what the insulation is, what about the load?

I see in most instalations in Cal"ee"fornia that 12 gauge is used for 30 amps?

EEEENNNTTT.

Who came up with that? Why is it "SO" common? Did I say common? I think I meant "TYPICAL".

Forget about the white and black coloration, they're usually backwards anyway, seriously! The last thing I'd do is use K&T coloration for anything safety oriented.

What I usually say is, seriously, can we replace this stuff?

But as long as the current rating is where it belongs, I'm completely happy and have nearly zero problem with K&T.

Does this help?
