Have a customer that wants lighting in their building and asked me what type to put in. The ceilings are 30' high. Should I use the metal halide 350w or use either T5 or T8's. I believe I can get rebates on either type. Wants the better light to use. Money is not a problem. They want a fixture that will last and be eff.
Thanks!

What type of building is it? Does the customer have any specific lighting requirements? That will probably make a difference.

Re: What Type OF Lighting To Use

I think most workers prefer something other than flourscent lighting. so if people will be working under the light for long periods of time, maybe flourescent is not a good choice. interesting that this is the first choice for offices.

other than that, it seems to me this is a choice between apples and oranges.

400W Pulse-Start Metal Halide (or possibly 750/1000W) should work well with 30 Ft ceiling.
T8 are great, but do not know if they would do the job that high up.
Have not used any T5's to speak of, but lotta people say the T5HO are great for high ceiling.
Regardless, talk to your fixture (luminaire)supplier & they will lay the system out for you.

Re: What Type OF Lighting To Use

We've installed hundreds of T5HO. They are fantastic. If you want to see some a new home improvement store may have them installed. I've seen them in some new Lowe's and HD's. They typically come in 8' industrial style with 4, 4' lamps; or in a 2'x4' size with an acryllic lens, 2 0r 4 lamp. Some 2x4's have threaded hubs and you can install similar to a HID, some have to be chained, screwed or whatever. Rebates come from local utility generally, and are usually for replacing inefficient lighting. I doubt if there is much or any rebate for new installation.

Re: What Type OF Lighting To Use

I did a retrofit. Removed 800+ 400W MH and installed 400+ 6 lamp T8 fluorescents. 1 fluorescent for every 2 MH. Lighting level is the same. Minimal glare. Lamps are F32T8 850
High CRI and 5000K. Looks almost like daylight in the warehouse.

Ceiling height is 35'
