What yr for bedroom smoke detectors?

I tried to forum search this one but didn't come up with any useful answer so I figure this is probably the best section to ask. I know this is not an NEC issue. Does anybody recall about what year the NFPA started pushing for smoke detectors in dwelling bedrooms? I can't remember exactly what year I started having to put them into all bedrooms instead of just the hallway outside the bedrooms. If I had to guess I would say sometime around 1994 or so. A customer had this question for me and I couldn't give him an exact answer right offhand.

Well I knew it was not 96. I thought of the next earlier code of 93.
But since it's not an NEC code. I went with 94, too
