I see some good prices on ebay but like buying a new car you need to open the oil cover on the ohv cover and look in there with a flashlight at the interior of the motor. You cant hide evils here you just need to know where to look. Most items are priced where if you bought it broke and you fix it it will be about the same.

You can probably find good deals all over the place on lifts about now, there are lots of them not in use.

The real question is, do you want or need one? A scissor lift on a job is very useful piece of equipment. But unless you are doing real long term projects it's easier to rent one ( have it delivered ) than have to transport it to all the different job sites. The next thing to consider, are you going to need the same type of lift on every job. When your rent a lift you get what you need for the job you are doing and when the job is over you return the lift. For the next job you may need and want to use a different type of lift.

It can be hard to get a lift on a loading dock if you don't have a flat bed truck. If you try hauling it around on a trailer it's much more economical but to low to drive on a loading dock.

Make sure you think about transport, storage and maintenance before purchasing any equipment. You really have to have quite a bit of use for a piece of equipment before you can justify the purchase of said equipment.

I could not agree more and you might want to talk to your insurance company as well, you may find they want it serviced on a regular basis by properly trained people.

If you going to use it daily then I am sure you can make it worth while, if you use it a few times a year I think you will end up loosing money.

that pretty much says it all. i had one 15 years ago, and ended up getting
rid of it 'cause it takes up space, and is a pain to transport. something to
look for in a transport trailer would be a low boy, that'll drop flat for loading
and unloading. they aren't cheap, but they are great for electricians...
gang boxes, scissor lifts, threaders, switchgear, transformers...

they sell two versions. both go flat into the weeds, so you can drive a
scissor lift on directly. one of them, however, wll lift that load from flat
to the ground, to dock height. it doesn't get any cooler than this, if you
have stuff to move around.

i'd like another one, but buying a used rental isn't appealing. they are trashed
most of the time. you'll also need a trailer to haul it, and a place to store it,
obviously. having a cheap old funky one isn't gonna be appealing the third
time you have to stop work to fix it.

if i was gonna get one on today's market, i'd look for a new one.... those guy's
have gotta be hurting for sales... this one would be my personal choice....

genie gs-1930.. it'll get to the top of a tilt up, fit thru a 30" door, and has
the all important nose extension.

The companY I worked for had a couple. They would get used for a couple or a few weeks then sit for months without use. Every time we wanted to use one it would need new batteries because the old ones sulfated and became worthless. In theory it would have been easy enough to keep the batts charged, but that's just a theory. Seemed like what we saved in rentals we paid in maintenance and or delivery costs.

Maintaince issues are a major problem also, if one fails and someone gets hurt, you better have all the maintaince records in order to show OSHA, and the injured parties lawyers. If you rent the lift the maintaince responsibility and liability rests with the rental company.
