How often do you recommend cleaning dust from inside an electrical cabinet? This particular cabinet is inside an enclosed room and is slightly dusty but the contractor who did our IR scan recommends every 3-5 years to the tune of $24,000. I thought that to be exorbitant and too often.

I have never heard of routine cleaning of the inside of a panelboard, in environments that did not require some type of breathing apparatus.

I've worked in many old buildings with 50 to 75 year old electrical equipment that has never been cleaned so I'm wondering what the benefit is.

I could see exercising breakers every few years as being good maintenance practice, as I have seen several have a pole that was hung up after sitting there and not moving for 30 years, but vacuuming or dusting out the cabinet not sure what that would accomplish.

I recently received a solicitation in the mail to perform the service of filing a required biennial business report with the state for $100 plus state filing fees.

I filed the report myself online for only the state's filing fee, took like 5 minutes to do, and about the only information involved was confirming that my current information on state files was still correct. Would have entered/confirmed same information on the form this solicitor sent me and taken about same amount of my time plus the $100. The were nice enough to include a postage paid return envelope though.
