Does any body know when will North Carolina adopt the 2011`? And will parts of it be scratched out? Say for example, if you go to a service call to repair / replace a switch, will we be required to add afci protection to that circuit ? And how about a panel relacement with out extensions, will we have to use AFCI protection??
Are these portions of the code holding up the adoption process?
Does the NC General Assembly have to vote on it ?

Thanks Derik, I guess they don't know either since thier is nothing about it other then we're still on the 08.

May be Dennis will check in when he get's up after his NY coffee.:)

Here is the latest from the NC IAEI news letter.

The 2011 NEC Electrical Code was adopted on June 14, 2011 and was to become effective on September 1, 2011 but that all has been put on hold. On June 17, 2011 the Rules Review Commission of the NC Legislature received written objections, pursuant to NCGS 150B-21.3(b2), from 11 persons requesting delay of the September 1, 2011 effective date. Initially, the NCBCC approved the adoption, but then the letters from the Raleigh area Homebuilders Association were received. It is rumored that these letters were ?Form? letters, all exactly alike, containing no reason for the objection to the NEC adoption, and that a couple of the letters were not even signed. As a result of this action before the 2011 NEC can become the NC Electrical Code it would have to be reviewed by the legislature which could delay the effective date for another year. The only way to get the effective date back to September 1, 2011 is by an Executive Order for Adoption by Governor Perdue

Yes, or it will become law automatically 30 days after the next full session if nothing is done.

As Roger has pointed out the Home Builders has brought the process to a complete stop. They say that some of the changes will make building a home in NC cost so much that no one will buy one. What the dumb butt does not understand is that the 2011 will make it cheaper to build instead of more costly.

It is my opinion and I want to stress it is only my opinion but it is more a power struggle with two people than anything else. To the best of my knowledge the only amendments are the same as in the 2008 edition.

Agreed, the home builders association was the same one that said the same thing when the 08 came out with the AFCI rules. We see how well that worked :happysad:
