Where can I find if a fire alarm system is required in a structure? Let's say I have a project that has a maintenance building, how do I determine if a FA system is required or not. Is it based on occupancy load and type, etc.? Going through NFPA 72 but it is such large document and thought that some might have run across this in the past and can point me in the right direction.

Building Code & Life Safety Code prescribe the requirement to have the system.
NFPA 72 tells you how to install it.
Contact your building official & fire marshal if they have jurisdiction on your project.
