Hey guys I know times are tough here on the gulfcoast and im looking at moving in the next six monthes. Im wondering what areas are surviving in this economy. Also for you old timers is this the slowest youve seen it or have you seen it slower

I wouldn't head south into Florida, unless you are looking for a really good deal on a home.

Permit applications here in SW Florida are at a 10 year low. Meaning, we haven't seen this rate of construction since the late 1990's just before the big boom in our area. Most of the "old timers" in this area say its worse than the recession in the 70's.

I am still optimistic...

Western NC is still strong in the commercial side of things.

Northern VA, MD, DC metro area is pretty good on commercial side but not too many houses which I'm sure is the norm around the country.

I'm down here in the Biloxi-Gulfport area and it's the slowest its ever been. It's not totally shut down however so I'm still treading water until I hit land again.

It definately sucks though especially after having wired over 100 houses between Oct.07 and June 08. The first 3 years after Katrina were really banging too.

The oil and gas business should be going strong down on the coast. I would think with some industrial experience there would be jobs working for an EC in one of the many refineries in the Houston/Port Arthur area.
