Where to connect Grounding Electrode Conductor in transformer?

Hello,

The Grounding Electrode Conductor connects to building steel or water main at one end. Does the other end connect to "X0" of transformer or ground bar of the transformer?

If the xfmr is NOT creating an SDS it has to go to the ground bar and cannot be connected to X0. However, if it is not an SDS, a GEC may not be required.

If the xfmr is creating an SDS it would probably be simplest to run it to X0 but the code allows a bar (within certain parameters) to be part of the GEC so it could go to the ground bar first and than to X0.

Code allows the XO to be bonded in the transformer case or in the first disconnect, the grounding electrode conductor goes to the same location as the bond.

The GEC can terminate to the ground bar within the transformer if the system bonding jumper (wire or bus bar) from the X0 also is terminated there. {250.30(A)(5)Ex#1}
