Which side is it again?

Open and close the pliers while watching the pivot from each side. You don't want to hit against the side where the plier pivot pin rotates in the plier body; hit with the stationary side.

If you mushroom the pivot pin, the pliers will tighten up and no amount of WD-40 will loosen it back up.

I once had a pair of Kleins rust so badly the staked end of the pin began to pivot instead, and very tightly. I had to center-punch the pin in the body before I could free up the rusted end and free them back up.

I have had this happen to me a bunch of times, and one time it was from dropping them on the concrete at about 8 ft. I always strike with the side that has the recess part ( the stationary part) as Mr Fine said.

What happened is the previously-round pivot hole became slightly ovalled. In other words, the pliers bent.

If you do "mushroom" the pin, in the past I have been able to grind enough off with a bench grinder to make them work again.

Larry, If you use these tools once in a while, they won't rust nearly as fast.:D :D

Actually, that happens from being in my back pocket when I sweat.
