While in use covers on lighting poles

Had a "Mike Tedesco" moment yesterday while driving around. I noticed all the light poles in my town decorated with Christmas (for the PC crowd RamaHanaKwansmas) lights that were pluged into the outlet at the base. Not sure if the outlets were GFI but shouldn't they have while in use covers. Its a "wet" location and there is no one attending it. Is there an exemption for seasonal decorations?

Got me thinking, I have never spec'd a pole with a while in use cover on any of my projects. Not sure if anybody makes one.

Re: While in use covers on lighting poles

It depends upon when they were installed as far as the Code is concerned. The newer rules are not grandfathered and they may meet the older Code. Additionally, they may be city or electric utility owned and not be required to meet the NEC.

By the way, you can have a "Joe Tedesco" moment anytime as long as you are taking photos. :D
