I have a home owner that is putting an addition on and want to put a whirlpool in her bedroom. Code states all outlets in a bedroom to be AFCI, whirlpools need to be on a GFCI and any recepticle b/w 5' and 10' need to be GFCI as well. Hence my problem.

Re: Whirlpool in Bedroom

Yes, however there may be nuisance tripping from the motor load of the pump even though the AFCI device is supposed to be tested and listed with motor loads. The AFCI and GFCI should work independent of each other. :)

Re: Whirlpool in Bedroom

Check definition of outlet in nec, outlet a point on the wiring system at which current is taken to supply utilization equiptment.210.12 b says all branch circuits installed in dwelling that supply outlets are to be arc fault protected. There is nothing that deals with a dedicated whirlpool circuit,as close as i can find is the definition of branch circuits general in which there are 2 or more receptacles or outlets on the circuit.I would have to say that this would be the ahj`s call..........Any thoughts
