I ran into a run of #12 that is white with a small green spiral stripe. The roll is labelled WHITE. It should confuse the inspectors. Does anyone know what white with green stripe is supposed to mean? It seems to be inconsistent with any code requirements.

Not sure of green, but I see white with blue stripe used on DC controls.

The service neutral is really a white wire with an imaginary green stripe as its either for unbalance current or ground fault path. I have used striped wire for identification of different full boats but would not use green.

You have this on a roll ? Or someone already installed it ? Help with the details.

Could it be a partial roll of white that was left out and the green is mold ????
White and green are two different animals.

I'll second Bob's DC controls comment. The only place I've seen weird stripped wires is for making DC wiring harnesses. And that wire comes in all sorts of color and stripe combinations -- orange with purple, black with green, you name it.

Is there any marking on the insulation as to the type of insulation, temperature rating, etc?

When I was still wiring I landed a PLC in an elaborate car wash equipment room and most was #12 strand all colors of the rainbow for termination identification and yes there was a white with a green stripe by coincidence.

When I did much more commercial I would order striped wire all the time, you order it they make/send it.... (You can ask for different color/custom lettering too.) Although this particular combination is a code violation IMO.
