who likes the green sheet?

I just received my master's license last May and am looking forward to giving what little money I have away to advertizing. Anyone had better than average results without spending it all? Maybe spending the $300 per month AT&T wants is worth it? Or paying the $25 per lead that Service Magic wants? Or the $100 per month that Google wants? I guess they can't give it away.

I too have faced this $$$$$ delima--

everybody wants big $$$$ to put your name in "their" phone book.
.
I primarly work by references and word of mouth but need a listing ( customers loose my card)
HOWEVER as if you just want your name in the black listings.
You can add a new phone# (seperate ringtone) to your existing line
for only $5 a month
AND it is considered a general listing so that all of the "little phonebooks" must include it in theirs.

as a bonus it may take a while but your name may get on the internet seach engines.
First year -do the local chamber of commerce. (watch-out everybody-and-their-dog will call you to advertize w/them ) next year try something else etc

For service work I think you need to try a bunch of different advertising places at the same time. Don't buy an ad in just the phonebook and wait for your phone to ring. You need to spread your little money out and track what works. What can you get for $100 a month from google?

I didn't find out everything from google. They said that my name would come up as one of the first 10 names people see when they request information on electricians in my area. I believe that is only when they use the google search engine, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep'em coming in. I would like to hear from another 30 people before investing. I saw where everyone was trashing Service Magic on this same question. I guess Service Magic is out of the question.

If you do any research on SM you'll know it's a waste because of all their dissatisfied clients. I believe you're mistaken about Google. Many telemarketers promise to get you in the top 10 or first page of Google searches, but Google isn't one of them. Google has adwords. Adwords puts your ad in a sponsored area of the first page but does nothing for the natural or organic results.
