We had something very similar (may even be the same, can't tell from the picture) in a plant I worked in. It was a track with a trolley system. Some, but not all the machines used the box at the top for the OCPD. You could use either a trolley or a stationary connector. The trolley had copper bars that made contact with the copper rails inside the track.
If I'm not mistaken, Eastman was the brand and I have no idea if they mfg it or just branded it with their name/Logo.
 
The only one I'm familiar with is Starline. They have all kinds of variations of taps you can order. Been around for a long time. Probably others but I think this is the most popular one.
 
From what I see Feedrail can be had both ways. And I should say that information on it is not easy to come by. What I found was from a commercial sewing machine and equipment company and they actually stock it.

Yes, it can be used both ways. Also, it was a sewing factory that I worked in that used the system. We used it for the cutting tables as well as the sewing machines. I would say that 99% of the equipment there was fed from the Feedrail.
