Whole House Fans

Guys,

Has anyone installed a whole house fan on a second floor hall ceiling when there is no access to the space above? Couldent you just wire it on the floor and rest it on the rough opening and screw it in from below? Is this ever done?

thanks, rob

Don't forget the definition of "accessible" vs "readily accessible"

Shure..I meen that the louver and the fan would have to come down, either that or remover the blade and stick your head in there to access the motor and junction box...Am I reaching here?

is it designed that way? like a recess light is designed to access the J-box by taking out the housing, trim and lamp.

Its probably not designed that way, but you still could get to it if you needed to. In North Jersey, they sometimes fail us on minor technicalities, so isent it fair to use a technicality in our favor?

Good quote.

If it is "accessible" then it is not a "technicality"

From what the OP describes, this sounds like a belt-driven fan. Probably a good 36" across.

The j-box is not accessible without disassembling the unit, and its not meant to be accessed from below. Only option I see is for a scuttle hole to be cut-in next to the fan.
