I found a post on here where an individual was asking if he had a 100 amp service and a generator rated at 100 amps but a 200 amp transfer switch. My question is can everything be rated at 100 amps such as the ser and se. We have a customer and due to the shortage of chips he can't get a 100 amp transfer switch. His generac generator has a 100 amp breaker as well as his main panel has a 100 amp. And if we are only treating this transfer switch as a switch and not overcurrent protection then why are we separating the grounds and neutrals.

Welcome to the forum.

The concern is whether the ATS must be treated as the service OCPD. I suggest asking your inspector.

If it isn't, there should theoretically be no separate EGC to the breaker panel, meaning SE and not SER.

Thanks. The homeowner ending up finding a service rated 100 amp ats. He got lucky. What I was going to end up doing was installing a 100 amp pullout disconnect in between the 200 amp ats and the meter can. That was we wouldn't have to change everything over to 200 amp.
