WI Master exam

Re: WI Master exam

Took it in November '04 and passed it. The application says the test is on Comm 5, and Comm 16 (downloadable off of www.wisconsin.gov) and the 2002 NEC. Four hours. Multiple choice, but all four answers are ones you get if you miss a step or make a simple mistake. I didn't notice any Comm 5 questions. Just straight code questions. Lotsa back and forth to get the right answer. Practice tests helped more than Code classes. You can use your own Code book. No cell phones, pagers, or programmable calculators. $160 to take the test, $200 for four years if you pass.

Re: WI Master exam

One aspect of the Wisconsin exam that you should be especially prepared for is providing the correct code reference/s for your answer. Some answers may only require one code reference while others may require two or three code references. For instance, a question might ask to size the main bonding jumper and the answer might require citing 250.66 and 250.28 also because 250.28 (D) states, "The main bonding jumper shall not be smaller than the sizes shown in Table 250.66."

The point is that citing all the required references is very important on the Wisconsin exam, so you need to be able to relate the different code references.

I hope this will help you in your preparation and good luck on your exam.

Re: WI Master exam

They will probably start using the 2005 Code right after it is adopted. The 2002 Code wasn't adopted until April 2003 and I think the May test used the '02. I heard rumors of October 2005.

Re: WI Master exam

Just found out I passed the WI master test :)
50 multiple choice, 4 hours, lots of obscure questions that only cheeseheads would ask. No more testing for me, I hope.
