Will the ability to do solar give me a advantage?

Just recently passed the Florida Unlimited test (June 30 2017) (Thanks Mr. Holt) and still in the liscensing process. I have Zero business experience, and not 100% Sure what to even do with the license. I was contemplating if I was to start electrical contracting, what could I do to set myself apart from the hundreds of other electrical contractors in Florida. Solar Photovoltaics was what came to mind, seems like one day soon it is really gonna take off. So am I on to something or would those hundreds of other contractors be quick to jump on the Solar bandwagon.

I think that the reason PV hasn't really taken off yet in Florida is the relatively low price of electricity. But PV equipment prices are now low enough that the state could be reaching a tipping point. I will PM you some advice.

There are actually many solar contractors in the Tampa Bay area. I've subbed for two. I would not start an EC business with residential solar. There are tons of headaches in it and you don't need that on top of trying to learn the ropes of running an EC shop.

On the other hand, if you do residential solar, you will not be competing with me, so go for it. :thumbsup:

P.S. I could easily fill 200 pages with the info you need to start an EC business. Do a lot of research. Don't jump in too quick. Make sure you have a lot of starting capital, minimum $30K IMHO.

So far the plan is to continue to work my current job, and do side work, then see what happens from there. I have always had a passion for solar, and I am currently trying to learn everything i can. I think it is something i would enjoy.

Another is the wind zone that most of Florida is in. It drives up the BOS (balance of system) costs.
