Hello All,
It's a kitchen cabinet replacement of an existing condo. No new appliances or any increase in electrical loads. Currently there's only one circuit serving all the kitchen appliances. With the new kitchen cabinet installed, will there be a requirement to add additional small appliance circuit? (The current code requires (2) circuits).
Thanks.

California Residential Code R105.2 exempts from permits "Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work." So if that is all you are doing, no permit required.

More broadly, I would expect a reasonable building department not to require a second SABC unless other electrical work is being done in the kitchen.

You could also check the IEBC (Existing Building Code) to see if it would support that expectation.

Cheers, Wayne

That is not really true in real life. If you are changing the cabinets you are also disconnecting/reconnecting the sink which requires a plumbing permit. If there is a range hood mounted to the bottom of the cabinet and you are removing/replacing it, a mechanical and electrical permit is required.

that would depend upon whether you are adding receptacles. if you add a receptacle to a place that is dedicated to a SABC, then it will have to be done, according to the code enforced at the current time.
