Window AC's

Why do most people I work with size window ac's at 1500W when doing calculations? When most window ac's for small bedrooms or apt studions are only 5-600 watts? It makes my buildings load calculations way off the chart.

It is better to error on high side rather than the low side.

correct, but pratically speaking today window ac's are very efficient, i know the one in my bedroom is 480 watts, 5500 btu, but 1500w means that i need bigger service equipment in the electric meter room for a 20 unit apartment building,

I have a small window a/c made by GE in a pop-up camper that is 5000 btu/hr @ 625 watt input,5.6 amps. I dont know how they arrived at that calculation. (625/120=5.2amps)

For whatever reason they used 110 volts.

625/110=5.68

Could be for those dual units with 1500-watts resistance heating.
