How does one deal with a window ac that is 3 feet from hot tub ?Bond frame to disconnect ?While it is on a gfci of its own there is a chance someone could touch its metal case.Tub is hard wired sitting on pavers.

Window AC

Window AC

If its outside and within 5' horizontal and 12' vertical (680.26(B)(5) bond with the #8 like you would a swimming pool. (motor, domestic hot & cold piping etc) If its inside you cannot have a general use outlet that close anyway, so take it out or connect it with a twist lock as well as a GFCI breaker and still find a way to bond it. Your absolutley right, someone can get shocked if there is a fault from the window unit, in that case the GFCI for the tub would open. Read article 680.

The ac is inside a shed along with its receptacle.Only the rear of unit sticks out thru cut hole.Tub is under a roof between shed and house.I am calling it outside as it is not heated or cooled area.Only thing under this wood roof is tub, frig, pool table.Floor is about to be poored in concrete and now is the time to add bonding as needed.I am planning on running #4 thhn stranded insulted from ac to the disconnect that feeds hot tub but perhaps i should take it directly to the tub.Its my own place and i entertain often. One never knows what people will do when drinking.I was pretty sure since its within 5 feet i needed to deal with it.One also knows gfci can fail. Thanks for any help.

Not if the AC is the equipment with the energized housing. The hottub's EGC doesn't pass through a current sensor.

The only way to protect against that is to power the AC unit through a GFCI device.

Jim I think if the tub is outside and the back of the ac is within 5' of the tub then it needs bonding, IMO

I agree and will be doing just that.I dont know how i overlooked it before. One could argue just what is outside,no rain can hit either one.I am just trying to make this safe as i can.GFCI breaker for tub is in site 6 feet away and test button is right there in site.AC has gfci receptacle and sat gets #4 bond wire from it to tub.Might even drive a rod on the trip.
