wire color code

working a production as a maintenance tech. and heard that dc circiut wires need to be blue but can not find any refernce to that fact just wnated some insight on the subject.

try nfpa 79 - electrical standard for industrial machinery. page 79-31 section 61 (wiring methods & practices).
section 16.1.3 "the use of other colors for the purpose of identification shall be as follows:"..... "- Blue: Ungrounded dc control conductors"

hope this helps.
most of the industries i have worked with use blue colored wire to designate 24 volts dc, both +24 volts and 0 volt terminal. one customer uses white to designate the 0 volt wire of the 24 volt circuit.

If its a grounded DC conductor, the required color code per NPFA 79 and its equal IEC standard is white with a blue stripe.

Where I work we have plastic molding machines. In the control cabinets the colors are:
blue- +24vdv
purple- 0vdc
red- 120vac
black- 240vac

These are Engel machines. I hope this will help.
