Wire Color

I have an equipment supplier that is sending me equipment with a four wire power supply cord. The colors of the wires are black, white, red, green. The equipment is 220 volt single phase and does not use a neutral. I have requested that the equipment supplier wire the equipment with the black and red wires as the "hot" wires, clip off the neutral and ground the equipment with the green. The equipment supplier will not honor my request and is sending the equipment with the black and white wires as the "hot" wires, clipping the red, and grounding with the green. Is there a specific code that will help me with this equipment supplier to send the equipment with "correct" wiring?

If there is, it is not the National Electrical Code. The NEC does not apply to the wiring associated with manufactured equipment. Sorry.

I agree with Charlie but also look at art. 200.7(C)(3) . It gives permission to use the white. It does not say if there are other colors availailable then you cannot.

I agree with you it is crazy that they use 4 wire rubber cord anyway. So what is the issue with cutting the white and using the red. Sounds silly to me.
