wire guage

I live in Mississippi and I'm trying to find out what guage of wire manufactured (mobile) homes are supposed to be wired with. This one is wired with a 14 guage wire and I was told that it was "outlawed" in the 1960's to use this wire to wire a house. Is this true? and what kinda damage could result from using the wrong guage of wire?

You were told wrong. Probably a misunderstanding on wire type that was "outlawed". In the early 70's aluminum wire, in sizes smaller than 10 gauge, were taken out of production.
