ive got a brady id pal that i keep on the truck. it works pretty good for most day to day stuff but you have to print the tags one at a time. weve also got a brady id pro that we use if we have aloy of wire to pull, it will serialize as many tags as you want but i dont think they make it anymore.

Wire Labeler - Brady TLS 2200

Wire Labeler - Brady TLS 2200

I cant speak to the residential or occasional comercial electrician user, but if you do industrial control work... Brady TLS 2200 is THE defacto standard.
It is about $800.00 for the kit, and the media is also expensive.

But labor is also expensive. The Brady TLS 2200 will reduce labor, as you dont have to search for the peel zone of the cheaper "P-Touch" style labelers. The Brady is THE perfect machine. It uses thermal transfer onto highly adhesive labels. The labels are highly legible, highly adhesive, and easy to peel by the laborer. The machine serializes easily, and you can readily rotate and change fonts for device labeling.

I got one on E-Bay for less than new price. But if I ever need another one, I would not hesitate to buy a new one at full price. It is worth it.

The Brady TLS 2200 is my most valued and most used tool.

We're using a Panduit LS-8 Panther wiremarker.
It can interface to a PC if you want to store frequently used tag sets.

It can print out terminal strip markers and wire#'s heat shrink tubing also.

The tags are not cheap but it does a good job.
NOTE: if you have a need for high volume (ex: building control panels), Brady and Panduit both have software to put on a PC and print to a printer.

I use a T&B EZL100, it's not the best but i like it. I used to have a Brady IDPRO. there is no comparison, the t&b wins for me.

We pre print all our labels, and use the Sharpmark USA's new software had great results and very cost effective.

I use a duralabel printer. Does wire markers pretty well but it's not handheld and it's definitely overkill if you're just doing wire markers. I use it because I have other labeling needs as well. Otherwise it would be a pretty spendy investment for just wire markers, though I did find a much cheaper supplier recently so it's not so expensive anymore.

As for handhelds, I'll second the id pal. Brady stuff is always expensive but it is a nice little printer. Used to have one before getting the duralabel.
