does/has anyone used those wirenut connector sockets that come with some brands? I can see it being a good idea, but doesn't seem practical unless your doing nothing but twisting connectors all day.

I generally use Tan Twisters and utilize my fingers to tighten them. If I spend all day doing make-up, I've got a 5/16" non-magnetic nutdriver for my cordless.

The only time I'll use them is if I've got a whole lot of splices to make up in one location. When I splice stranded I like to give it more of a spin than I can do with my fingers, so if I'm making up a whole can or trough full of splices, then I'll put one of those twisters in my ratcheting screwdriver and go to town. Otherwise, I just use my Kleins.

I had an apprentice put one in a cordless drill. I went to check his work and found some of the wires twisted all the way up tho the connector...tight. Ever since then the first thing I do when I open the bag is to throw them away.

Wouldn't it make more sense to teach the apprentice the correct use of the tool?

If an apprentice uses any other tool incorrectly, such as a bender or tugger, do you get rid of the tool?

Yep. had a boss once that took a way the power pony. Everyone had to thread the rigid by hand. After a few days, he brought it back and production picked up. The power pony was treated better after that too.
