Wire nut taps in a disconnect

1722367853562.png

I opened a disconnect and found the contractor has wire nut taps inside of the Disconnect. A VFD was installed between the existing Disconnect and the AHU motor; so now there are Line and Load terminations and there are two sets of wires that are wire nut tapped in the Disconnect. The Contractor is telling me that the wire nut taps are allowed inside the Disconnect. I do not have my Code Book handy at this moment but what to dispute him. Can some help me with this.

Thanks
Daryl

Interesting, a blue wire nut and two red yellow, same wire pairs
A few zip ties would help.
And the 4 EGC in the same lug is a violation

I don't see the issue. They are allowed. See 312.8.

Thank you for the respomce. I read 312.8 and see that taps are allowed but in my opinion this is bad practice.. Line and Load wires should only be in a fusible Disconnect in my opinion. Having another set of #8 wires tapped together inside of junction box just looks bad when you open the Disconnect. I guess I'm just old school. Thanks again for the responce.

I don't see an issue with the wire nuts. There are allowed as long as they are in an enclosure and a disconnect enclosure is an enclosure.

Plenty of room in there for them.

The mess of wires on the ground lug not so much. That should be fixed.

3M reds are good for 2x #8 and the blue Ideal is good for 2x #8.
My eyes say those wires are not big enough to be #6.
