I don't think that is in the NEC. I think its more of a manufacturers thing. Look at the bag of wire nuts that you have, it will tell you the maximum number of wires that will fit.I have acoworker telling me I can put more than 5 wires in wire nut. I founf in the code book a while back , as of late unable to find it. Anybody out know where I might find it ?
As far as I know a specific limit has never been in the NEC. The closest thing that you'll find is 110.3(B).I have a coworker telling me I can put more than 5 wires in wire nut. I found in the code book a while back , as of late unable to find it.
110.3(B) Installation and Use.
Equipment that is listed, labeled, or both shall be installed and used in accordance with any instructions included in the listing or labeling.
Other than that, there is a general practical situation when getting more than 4 even if the wirenut is rated for such it tends to be problematic in making a good connection of all the conductors. Tendency for at least 1 conductor to push down or even out with a conacle shape of the wirenut.I don't think that is in the NEC. I think its more of a manufacturers thing. i did`nt sea my thread so I did it again , my bad.It is listed in the mfg instructions. As to the amount, that has to do with the size of the nut and the gauge of the wires, which is part of the instructions.
