Re: Wire nuts

if you are using the little blue ballast wire nuts, i would say no... j/k, but plz be a lil more specific. but as far as i know, there is nothing wrong with a #10 solid and a #10 stranded wire nutted together.

Re: Wire nuts

i have no troble with using #10 wires to wirenuts for many years and i do carry wide varity of sizes of wires nuts to fit the proper one from tiny grey wirenuts to big monster bleu nuts that i can use to tie # 6 ( #6str to #6 str) together !!and most import thing is look at the box it will listed approved connections btw be carefull with voltage it will sometime list 2 or 3 way to deal with it and my standard pratice that any time i deal with 277 volts and higher i go up one size bigger for safty reason

Re: Wire nuts

The code states that soldered splices must first be mechanically and electrically secure before the soldered. With the application of "wire nuts" or as the code refers to them as wire connectors, do you feel it is better to first mechanically connect the conductors then apply the connector, or will the connector apllication suffice as joining the conductors mechanically. It is my opinion that wire connectors are more for insulation than joining. I have has alot of problems with conductors pullong out of wire connectors, or loose connections in general. Any thoughts?

Re: Wire nuts

i personally make it a practice to "mechanically" join the wires then apply the wire nut or "wire connector"

Re: Wire nuts

i hear ya jason. i have had a few "boingers" myself. those are when you take the wirenut of and the conductors go "BOING" flying all over the box making you have to change your laundry. make them up before applying the nut.

Re: Wire nuts

Take a look at Mike Holts Grounding and Bonding Text, 2002 edition, fig 250-205. A green wire connector can only be used for equipment grounding (bonding) conductors. A red wire connector can be used for grounded, ungrounded and equipment ground. I checked with a Ideal product engineer and verified this is correct and is per the UL listing.
