I am confused by the code. 100amp main with a 100amp sub-panel. 20ft apart. Copper #3 & #8grd OR #2 & #6grd ?

The EGC is sized on Table 250.122 based on the overcurrent protective device.

Answer could vary depending on conditions (ambient, # of current carrying,termination tempt ratings, and most importantly, wiring method (NM is 60 degree) etc_) but basic answer is 310.16, #3 Cu is 100 amp, and 250.166 OCP not exceeding 100 = #8 (unless Romex)
