I've got a 15KVA Xfmr that is going to feed a 100
Amp Lighting panel. The distance from the disconnect to the Transformer is 300'. What size wire do I need to feed this? voltage is 480 3 phase from disconnect.

Re: Wire Size

Jeff,
Are you sure your transformer is large enough for your connected load? Based on a power factor of 100 percent your 15KVA transformer will supply only 41.66 amps if the secondary is 120/208 wye.

Re: Wire Size

That's what I've been thinking about. The Xfmr is existing, and was in service at one time. Now there is no way to power it up without running that 300'. The panel was installed and apparently never hooked up , and now they want power to it. Thanks for your help.

Re: Wire Size

If the transformer were fully loaded, #10 wire would be large enough. This would give you less than 3 percent voltage drop for that distance.
