Wire Size

I need to power a small shed behind my house and would like to know how large my wire size should be to provide power to it.

I expect to run the line approximately 250 to 300 ft. underground and be able to power shed lighting, flood lights, general recepticles and possibly a battery charger. (total no more than approx 20 amps draw).

Re: Wire Size

The size will need to be at least 250' to 300' to reach. ;)

If the run is 275' you will need 4 AWG CU to get 20 amps at 120 volts out to the shed with a voltage drop of less than 3%.

If you will allow 5% voltage drop you could run 6 AWG CU.

Get an electrician to help with this job.

Re: Wire Size

Thank you.

Just gaining information for myself. I do plan on having an electrician do the job,... just like to know what he might be talking about when he explains my needs for materials.

Again,... thank you.
