I know that copper has fallen dramatically, but we have a decent sized company scrap pile and a little more time. Was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a wire stripping machine or home invention. Trying to do this on a budget to see a fater ROI. Last I heard, our local yard was paying 75-90 cents/lb for insulated and 1.75 for #1 bare CU.

I can't personally recommend it, but I've heard of Big Bucs.

Personally, I do quite well with nothing more than a utility knife and a bench vise.

we had one at work that has holes for different size wire and a motor. you turn it on and it ulls the wire through and strips the jacket off. works great on large size wire and works ok on small wire. just wear gloves when you strip or else your hands will be ripped to shreds from the pieces of razor sharp wire

I knew an electrician that had a little fine toothed circular saw blade deal that was about half an inch in diameter, he ran a screw through the center of the cutter blade into a shaft (picture somthing like a drimmel tool bit) that he chucked up into his drill press, he could adjust the table up and down depending on the gauge wire he was stripping. He would just run sections of wire along the spinning blade cutting a split in the jacket, then peeled it off. Im not saying this is safe, just relaying somthing I saw someone else do.... It worked pretty good for him, but I could see someone getting a mangled hand if they slipped up....

What do you think about this?

My scrap yard says that the sheath and insulation in romex weighs about the same as the copper content inside, per foot.

Meaning it's almost not worth stripping given the price difference...

I haven't weighed it out yet to see, but think of the labor saved if it's close?
