If you missed Franks post---4/1/07 is April Fools Day. There actually has been some work done in that area but I think they can light a 60 watt bulb by creating a tremendously large electromagnetic field. Not very marketable.

microwave directional energy is a viable power transfer method but not really marketable right now AFIK and if you get in the way of the beam, it might hurt.
