Are there any code compliant smoke detectors that are battery only (no hardwire) with a wireless link? This is for a house that is being remodeled.

I'm looking at NFPA 72-2013 section 29.6.1 and it seems to indicate a smoke alarm can be operated on just a 10 year sealed battery but I'm not sure I'm interpreting this correctly.

Yes, battery-only would be fine. Building codes may still require hard-wired smoke alarms for new construction, renovation, or additions. The big market for battery-only is current housing stock built before hard-wired alarms were required.
