Anyone have any recommendations on wireless door bells. Have a case where it would be very challenging to get wires fished for wired system. The existing are in poor shape and there are some that I've found open - so it's not going to work out trying to use existing.

Haven't used wireless - wonder is anyone else has.

I have seen them in use and they work okay. Need to keep the batteries replaced.

One of the people I work for owns a bunch of apartment buildings. A few years ago he did alot of remodeling on them and at that time he thought the wireless doorbells were the greatest things. Rip the old doorbells out and replace with wireless. As of today, I've replaced 80% of them with hard wired. The tenants complain and call him when the batteries die or they don't work 100% of the time.
On the other hand, I've used the wireless doorbell in a situation where the homeowner cut the original doorbell wires and didn't want to do any patching.
Had to experiment with the best placement of the chime since the location of the original wired one was too far away from the pushbutton for it to work every time.

Jeff, the dimango product is very good and I have used it but it needs to be used with an existing wired doorbell. I believe it gives the ability to add a chime anywhere in the house. The transmitter is mounted in the existing chime and then you plug the receiver (remote chime) anywhere in the house.

i've installed two wireless doorbells and both of them quit working after a couple of months. and when they did work, sometimes you would have to push the button two or three times to make it ring. i don't remember the brands; they were off-the-shelf items at HD. sometimes you just don't have a choice, but if its at all possible to go hardwired, do so.

I won't install them for any of my customers. Besides being ugly and horrible on battery life during Syracuse winters, well, they are sorta the ultimate DIY product. Which is exactly what I tell anyone who asks me to install one: "you buy those only when you don't want to hire someone to repair your doorbell system, no?" :)

Dont bother with the wireless, even the expensive ones dont work all the time and go bad frequently
